Brief History

The Mid-South Churches Cooperative Conference's Baptist State Congress of Christian Education (formerly the Original North Mississippi Baptist State Congress of Christian Education) (Congress) traces its origin to the year 1938 with the expansion of the Paradise Sunday School and Baptist Training Union (BTU) under the leadership of Deacon Dan Robinson (New Hope-Walls). The BTU continued meeting annually until 1954. From 1954-1966, there was a period of inactivity. However, in 1966, the Congress was reorganized at Independent-Tyro as the North Mississippi Baptist Education Congress with Pastor L. S. Biles (Carroll Bluff) elected as president and Pastor V. B. Brown (St. Paul) as Dean.

Other Deans: Pastor T. J. Denson (1970-1977, West Antioch #2), Deacon S. D. Minor, Sr. (Mt. Calm, 1977-1988), Ms. Mable Lawrence (1988-2010, Hickory Grove), Dr. Michael O. Minor (Oak Hill, 2011-2012),
Ms. Loretta Miller (Prince of Peace, 2013-2018), Ms. Mattie Wallace-Stokes (2019-2020), Pastor Dorothy Jones (2021-present)

Other Presidents: Pastor Jacob Davis (1987-1989, Hammond Hill), Pastor CJ Thomas (1989-2009, Pleasant Hill), Dr. Michael O. Minor (The Hill-Hernando, 2009-present)
